The West Sussex Sustainable Business Partnership (WSSBP) evolved from the West Sussex Business Waste Reduction Programme which was formed in November 1998. The West Sussex Betre (Business Excellence Through Resource Efficiency) programme was developed and delivered by the WSSBP in conjunction with Ecosys Environmental Management and Education with the help of landfill tax credit funds from January 2001 to June 2002. This programme engaged with over 300 businesses and identified in the order of £400,000 of savings and avoided fines for businesses in the county.
The members of the WSSBP are West Sussex County Council, Adur District Council, Arun District Council, Chichester District Council, Crawley Borough Council, Horsham District Council, Mid Sussex District Council, Worthing Borough Council, the Environment Agency, Government Office for the South East (GOSE) and the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). The main purpose of the WSSBP is to demonstrate to businesses that environmental protection and social equity make good business sense and to help them take action to improve the sustainability of their businesses.
