The business-led congestion beating initiative, easit, so successful in Redhill, is being considered by local companies for implementation to reduce car use on the Manor Royal Estate in Crawley. First Choice, Pasta Reale, Thales, and GSK are among the businesses who, together, employ over 8500 people, signed up to the investigation, while BAA is also supporting the scheme. Possible initiaties being considered are a cer sharing website, lunchtime shopping transport or shuttle buses. Travel clinics and surveys are taking place in the member companies to obtain user views.
A joint Crawley Borough Council, West Sussex County Council and Gatwick Diamond Initiative, the aim is to set up a scheme by the end of May. Chief Executive of easit, Mel Mehmet, leading the study, says: "There is a lot of enthusiasm for the easit concept and, once we have the results of the surveys and clinics, businesses can choose which approaches are likely to attract most support."
