BA will be flying to 13 new destinations from Gatwick in 2008, including two services to Poland targetied at the increasing number of Polish working in South East England.
The new flights are mostly to holiday destinations such as Antalya, Gibraltar and Alicante which reflect the airline's priorities for Gatwick. Commercial Director, Robert Bryce says that BA has tried to sustain business services from Gatwick but they have made losses. "It's difficult for Gatwick to compete against the twin runways of Charles de Gaulle and Schipfol for business travel, but we are looking to extend our premium leisure flights from the airport."
The Gatwick operation is still BA's second largest after Heathrow employing 3500 staff, operating 100 flights a day and carrying 3.5 million passengers a year.
