BATTLE OF THE BAGUETTES AT BUTLINS
Butlins Bognor Regis plays host to the 2009 Arun Enterprise Challenge Final
Hopefully you've all been following the Arun Enterprise Challenge, but if not, the final of this competition saw 3 students from 3 different secondary schools in Arun compete in an industrial kitchen to make the best sandwich. This was the culmination of a year long event and needed a high profile, difficult challenge for the finalists. Butlins more than stepped up to the plate (nice pun - ed!) to offer huge support enabling the young people the opportunity to test their business skills.

After spending the morning preparing and packaging their sandwiches, students took the opportunity to sell them at the Arun Business Partnership's Getting to Know You event being held in Butlin's Conference Centre.

One exhibitor, Matthews 4 Catering Ltd of Rustington, couldn't speak highly enough of the way students approached prospective customers, offering high levels of customer service and their persuasive selling techniques - in fact, they bought a sandwich from each of the students!

The winner was Laura James from Littlehampton Community School
who made a profit of £24.20 by selling her sandwich "Sicilian Chicken on Wholemeal" (chicken, red pesto, basil and lettuce)

The judges Mike Dines from Kittiwake, and Richard Drake from Barclays Bank said "Laura has shown all round entrepreneurship - she's organised, carried out market research beforehand, provided excellent customer service and of course, made a tidy profit."

As part of her prize, Laura's sandwich will be sold within the Skyline food outlets and Butlins staff restaurant.  She also gets to keep the profit and will be invited to the ABP Awards in October to receive her trophy and prize.

The Runners up were Harry Metter from The Angmering School and Alex Edwards from Felpham Community College. The judges were impressed with both runners up and the final decision was very difficult as each student had different strong points but all were professional, confident and excellent sales people!  Judges were impressed with Harry's natural selling skills and with Alex's high quality sandwich.
