VIEW FROM THE FRONT

 

The District of Horsham has the third best quality of life in the country and has the eighth most 'crunch resistant centre'.  Part is in the Gatwick Diamond and therefore in an area identified in the SEEDA Regional Economic Strategy as a key economic development growth location.  The other part is the market towns of Henfield, Steyning, Storrington, Pulborough and Billingshurst, providing sub district 'hubs' within a rural hinterland. 126,000 people live in the District, of which nearly 70,000 are economically active. I-SIGHT asked Liz Kitchen, Leader of Horsham District Council how this successful area will face the downturn and come out smiling.

GATWICK EXPRESS EXTENDS
After a hard fought campaign to retain the service, WSEP welcomed the launch of the extended peak hour Gatwick Express service to Brighton and intermediate stations on 14th December.  But the 12-car service has had a mixed reception so far with early reports criticising a very slow running service from Gatwick to the Coast.
